Phnom Bakheng is north of Angkor Wat and is a magnificent five tiered structure set on the top of a naturally formed hill.
The towers are the most outstanding feature and originally they totalled 109! The base had 44 towers, plus 12 on each of the five tiers and another 5 on the very top.
Many towers are missing now, but it is those that remain that give you the most incredible photo opportunities in every direction.
Looking back behind me, the rising sun casts a golden glow on the ruined remains of the central tower.
The towers being adorned by the first rays of the morning sun. Amazing colours even in the clouds!
To complete the gloriousness of sunrise at Phnom Bakheng, to the south east, Angkor Wat can be seen emerging through the humid mist of the morning.
