When I read that Ailsa’s travel theme this week was ‘neutral’, I thought about all the marble statues that I had seen at ‘The Met’ during my recent trip to New York.
This is a youthful Hercules from the Roman Flavian period, A.D. 68 – 98
The Three Graces; I love the swaying movement of this sculpture! Roman, mid Imperial, ca. 2nd century A.D.
And this little beauty is Marsyas; how I feel his pain! ca. 1680 – 85.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art; a treasure trove of neutral toned marble sculptures!
