A few days ago I created a post on the theme of ‘books’ and it started me thinking about all the wonderful libraries I have visited over the years.
The most recent one I have visited was ‘The New York Public Library’ and while the ‘Rose Main Reading Room’ was closed (sigh…so disappointing), I still had a fab time!
After signing in, I grabbed an audio tour headset and lost myself for the next few hours as I explored this impressive library.
The foyer; so incredibly grand. I was stuck here for a while marvelling at the magnificent architecture and gorgeous windows and light fittings.
While it was quiet and peaceful in the library, the hustle and bustle of the New York streets continued outside.
Mmm, a couple of serious and studious looking people. Move on, don’t disturb…
Look but don’t touch! Lol!
Not a book in sight in this room. Off with their heads!
There’s a little bit of magic in every library and I found this tiny treasure in the children’s section. This enchanting umbrella belonged to P. L. Travers; author of ‘Mary Poppins’.
The yellow card next to it reads, “This fanciful umbrella belonged to the author of Mary Poppins and resembles the one that allowed the title character to fly”.
Needless to say, I continued my library tour whilst humming, “Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, the medicine go down…”
I’m in new York too!! I wanna go to the library. Looks beautiful♡

We never went there when we were in NY – can’t imagine why! We visited the (also grand) library in Boston. Lovely post.

Given your occupation, not to have visited is almost a crime! Next time…

I know! Horrendously negligent.

I love the New York Public Library! The architecture is amazing, and they have really interesting rotating exhibitions. I have to admit that my favorite part of a visit to the library is seeing the lions outside though – Patience and Fortitude! I think your first photo captured Fortitude, as she’s the lion on the right side of the entrance.
